This may be one of the dorkiest things to say but… I absolutely love my hometown (and I’m okay with it)! I was born, raised, and still live in the City of Morris and I could not be prouder. Most people want to leave their hometown after high school, but I’m extremely happy to still live here. That’s why when the City of Morris hired me to take professional brand photos for their new website, it was honestly difficult to hold back my excitement.
A couple of reasons why I felt like I was the perfect photographer for this personal brand photography session:
- I previously worked at the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce. This helped me really understand the business and economic aspects of our city. I’m familiar with the small businesses but also the large corporations that contribute to our local economy.
- I’m a lifelong resident! Since I’ve spent practically my entire life here, I know the schools, parks, entertainment, and recreation. I know things about our city that make us proud and the things that we wish we could change.
Now, you may think I just drove around and took pictures of the city. Nope! When a business hires me for personal brand photography, it’s so much more than taking pictures. I work with the business to plan a detailed shot list, coordinate locations, give input on props and clothing, etc. I like to know how they are going to use their images, so I know how I need to shoot and edit the photos.
Since this has been my largest brand photography session to date, it took a lot of planning, coordination, and shooting to get ALL the images requested. Once everything was coordinated, I had to also be mindful of the weather. The entire project ended up happening over the course of 2 weeks and some retakes were needed. But it was all worth it because the final images turned out great!
